TRANSCRIPT

What do Airbnb, BlackRock, Canva, Pinterest, Shopify and Stripe have in common? For one thing, they use Watershed to help them account for their carbon emissions. While dozens of startups are chasing the fast-growing carbon accounting software category, which is forecast to reach $64 billion in 2030, Watershed stands out for its ability to help corporations reduce Scope 3 emissions from their supply chains, which are notoriously difficult to measure let alone reduce. The $1 billion startup raised funding from Al Gore and John Doerr, an early backer of Google and Amazon.

Trellis’ editor-at-large Heather Clancy will talk with Watershed co-founder Taylor Francis on the latest episode of Climate Pioneers, a new video series showcasing the innovators working to mitigate the climate crisis.

The conversation will cover:

  • How customers like Airbnb, BlackRock and Pinterest use its software
  • Tips for how companies can help suppliers buy renewable energy, reducing emissions for both
  • Advice about how to select carbon accounting tools
  • Watershed’s vision for competing with Microsoft, SAP and Salesforce
  • How sustainability professionals guide Watershed’s strategy
  • How Francis’ experience in climate strategy at Stripe shaped his decision to become an entrepreneur
  • How Watershed’s co-founders collaborate with the firm’s big-name backers and advisors
  • Why Watershed joined Frontier, the $1 billion carbon removal fund co-founded by Francis’s former employer, Stripe

Key insights and case studies will be published after the conversation.
